ULMA’s ‘Decade of Racing’ season continued last weekend with two points-earning events for drivers making their way to Callaway Raceway and Lucas Oil Speedway for each of the track’s first weekly race rograms of the year. Jason Bodenhamer drove to his 31st career ULMA win by way of Callaway Raceway on Friday night while Todd McCoin captured his first-ever track victory at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday.

After two straight weather cancellations foiled opening night at Callaway Raceway, the track’s drivers and fans were more than ready to begin a new race season. Thirteen drivers were on hand for Late Model competition. Bodenhamer, the 2008 ULMA Champion recorded his third career victory at Callaway Racewy and first at the track since August 26, 2011.

Defending Lucas Cattle Company ULMA Champion Jon Melloway raced his way to second just ahead of Todd McCoin, who he narrowly edged out for the overall title last year. Behind McCoin in third was Terry Wilson and former Callaway Raceway winner Dustin Hodges. Walt Imhoff, Chuck Melloway, Weley Briggs, Chris Cox, and Phil Edmondson rounded out the top ten.

Next up on the weekend was opening night at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. According to the post-race press release last weekend from the Speedway, Todd McCoin celebrated a win “at a place where Lady Luck has not always ridding alongside.” McCoin’s victory gave him a $1,000 payday and biggest career win courtesy of ALPS Food Store in Pittsburg, Mo.

Behind McCoin at the finish line were Larry Ferris and Chris Smyser to round out the top three finishers. Bobby Penney of Lawson, Missouri found his way to fourth at the finish followed by I-35 Speedway winner David Melloway in fifth. Roudning out the top ten were Justin Russell, Ethan Young, Jon Binning, Walt Imhoff, and Wesley Briggs.

Prior to last week’s racing, a special tribute to Jake Williams took place with Jon Binning driving the late driver’s car #72 around the track after a ceremonial pace lap. As a final racing tribute to her late husband and former ULMA Track Champion Jake Williams, Laura Williams, Jake’s Widow will donate a $100 bonus for the next five weeks to the Late Model driver finishing in the same position that her husband did in corresponding races two years ago.

Admission prices this week include: The Super Saver Special (before 6:30 p.m.) – $30 for four admissions, four hot dogs and four 20-ounce Coca-Cola products, Adults (16 and up) – $12, Seniors (62 and up)/Military – $9, Youth (6-15) – $5, Kids 5 and under free. A family pass is $25, pit passes are $25. On Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway, gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30. ULMA’s Northern-most affiliated tracks is Randolph County Raceway in Mobelry, which begins its 2016 season this Saturday night. According to the track’s social media post, on April 23rd Randolph County Raceway the United States Modified Touring Series comes to town. The USRA Iron Man B-mod series will be on the night’s racing card along with ULMA late models, RCR hobby stock and 4 cylinders.

Gates open at 5, Hotlaps begin at 6:15 pm with racing beginning at 7 pm. Admission prices are: 5 and under FREE, kids 6-13 $10, General Admission $20. For general track information be sure to visit the track at www.randolphcountyraceway.com.

For all events this weekend and all events going forward this season, drivers must possess a valid ULMA license or purchase the $10 temporary license while on site at each event. Drivers are highly encouraged to make their way to the ULMA website at www.ulmaracing.com and complete the licensing paperwork prior to checking in at weekend events, printing it out, and bringing it with them to the tracks they will race at this season. Drivers must be in compliance with ULMA Rules and Regulations as written.

Eight different tracks dot the ULMA schedule this season including Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri; Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri; Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri; Central Missouri Speedway in Warrensburg, Missouri; Double XX Speedway in California, Missouri; Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas; I-35 Speedway in Winston, Missouri; and for the first time since 2012, Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Missouri as part of the Missouri State Fair.
