Aaron Marrant continued capturing early season Lucas Cattle Company ULMA headlines by racing his way to his second-consecutive main event at Lucas Oil Speedway last Saturday. Marrant originally hoped for a weekend sweep beginning on Friday, but wet conditions halted the action at Lakeside Speedway on Friday.

A strong field of 24 drivers made their way to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri on Saturday evening where it took three heat races to sort out the main event starting lineup. In preliminary action, Marrant held off a forward-moving Tommy Cordray to take heat one. David Melloway topped Larry Ferris in heat race two while Bobby Penney claimed the checkers in heat three over Justin Russell.

In the main event, Marrant and Cordray shared the front row where it didn’t take long for Marrant to assert himself out front in route to his second-consecutive win after dominating all 20 laps. Cordray finished a strong second, his best run of the year, while 2016 winner David Melloway finished third. Unfortunately, a pileup on lap six slowed the pace and led to an early retirement from the event for Russell as his car was too badly damaged to continue. Ferris advanced one position to fourth in the main event with 2015 ULMA Champion Jon Melloway finishing fifth. Jon Binning advanced from 13th to sixth and earned the hard-charger of the race. Ethan Young, Penney, Todd McCoin, and Chris Cox completed the top ten.

ULMA weekly championship racing takes a week off at Lucas Oil Speedway this coming Saturday as the track is set to host an open-wheel special event. ULMA will return to action at Lucas Oil Speedway the following Saturday, May 14th. For more information and details on the many upcoming special events at the speedway, visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

The planned Friday event at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas was canceled due to wet conditions; however, ULMA drivers have another chance to compete at the track on Friday, May 27th. Lakeside Speedway is found on the web at www.lakesidespeedway.net.

Late Models had the weekend off at Callaway Raceway last weekend but action resumes this Friday, May 6th. Gates open at 5 with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30. The track is located at 7419 County Road 405, Fulton, MO. For additional information call (573) 592-7795 or (573) 642-6580 or visit www.callawayraceways.com.

ULMA drivers have two geographical choices to compete at on Saturday, May 7th as northern and eastern-based teams can choose from action at Randolph County Raceway (RCR) right in their backyard with gates opening at 5, hot laps beginning at 6:15 p.m. and racing at 7 pm. In addition to ULMA Late Models, USRA Modifieds, USRA B-Mods, RCR Hobby Stocks, and RCR Sport 4 Cylinders will also compete. In ULMA’s last appearance at RCR, Chris Smyser captured his first victory of the season. This Saturday at RCR is “Ladies Night” at the track with special $5 grandstand admission for the ladies.

For western-central and southern-based teams, Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) in Warrensburg, Missouri hosts ULMA drivers on Saturday, May 7th for the first appearance of seven this year. An anonymous fan has informed the speedway and ULMA that he will add $100 to the winner’s share, making the event win worth $700 at CMS. Along with ULMA Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Mods, and Pure Stocks will also compete. Pits open at 4:30 p.m., grandstands at 5, driver pill draw cutoff at 6:15 (no passing points awarded to late drivers), Pit Meeting 6:30, Hot Laps at 7, and racing at 7:30.
