(Warrensburg, Missouri) The POWRi WAR Sprint Cars made their first and only appearance of the Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) 2022 season with 22 cars on hand for competition. Wesley Smith highlighted the sprint field with the 25-lap main event victory to close out Midwest Coatings, LLC race night.

The season points championships ended on Saturday evening (next weekend’s events do not count towards season points) with 18 B-Mods, 12 POWRi Super Stocks, 13 Pure Stocks, and 12 POWRi Midwest Mods on hand; coupled with the sprint car count, there were 77 total race teams on hand throughout the night.

By the end of the night, Brad Smith claimed the B-Mod win, Jay Prevete captures the POWRi Super Stock Victory, Spencer Reiff capped his championship season with the Pure Stock victory, while veteran Steve Muilenburg took the POWRi Midwest Mods main event.

Kory Schudy and Tom Curran earned the front-row starting positions for the POWRi WAR Sprint Car main event. Curran assumed command of the race in the early stages with Smith close by in front of previous CMS winner Kory Schudy close behind. However, by lap six, it was Smith who moved to the front of the field with Schudy, Burks, and Curran giving chase. By the lap 13 marker, Curran’s night came to and end as he retired from the event around the same time as the first caution flag flew. For the restart, Smith then led Schudy, Burks, and Jack Wagner. This running order remained close but the same through lap 20, when the second caution flag of the event flew over the field. Over the last five laps, Schudy searched for a way in front of Smith but could not seal the deal as Wesley Smith eventually went on to claim the $2,000-to-win victory over Schudy. Wyatt Burks was third at the finish in front of Jack Wagner and Steven Russell inside the top five.

Sturgis Streeter and Mike Ryun began the 20-lap B-Mod main event from row one with Streeter moving to the front of the field in the race’s early stage ahead of Ryun, Jacob Ebert, Brad Smith, and Terry Schultz. It appeared catfishing the bottom of the track was going to be the theme of the race until caution flew over the field early in the race. At this time, officials pushed out the utility tires into the low line of the track and from this point on, it was go-time for the drivers as the race went caution-free for the remaining laps. Smith was the first driver to jump to the high side of the track as Schultz also moved to the high lane as the pair tried to close in on Streeter. Smith then moved to the low line and moved to second by lap nine in an intense battle with Schutlz. Smith eventually took sole possession of second after several laps of clean and side-by-side action with Schultz. Smith then pressured Streeter for the lead and when the cars crossed the scoring loop at lap 12, Smith was the leader. Streeter stayed close to Smith the entire distance, and kept the pressure on, but on this night, Smith was the man to beat as he claimed the victory. Streeter finished a close second with Schultz third. Ebert ran solidly to the finish to come away fourth while consistent Jake Richards rounded out the top five.

Marc Carter was seeking his second-consecutive POWRi Super Stock win as he and Jay Prevete of Windsor, Missouri started the 20-lap main event from the first two positions. Carter grabbed the lead at the start, but Prevete, Blaine Ewing, Aaron Poe, and Clayton Campbell were all in great shape inside the top five in a tight race. Through lap seven, Carter maintained his lead with Ewing second, Poe third, and Prevete fourth. At lap ten, disaster struck for Carter as his car unexpectedly slowed exiting turn four with the leaders jostling for positions behind him while miraculously keeping themselves out of trouble as Carter immediately maneuvered his car off the track to the infield retiring from the event. When the drivers came around for the next scored lap, Prevete had moved to the front of the field. ahead of Ewing and Poe. The top three maintained their spots through the lap 15 mark as Prevete slowly pulled away from the close battle between Ewing and Poe for second. Prevete eventually claimed the victory in convincing fashion leaving Ewing and Poe to settle things out for second and third. Ewing beat Poe to the line inside the top three, while behind them Campbell raced his way to fourth with Nathan Williams completing a strong run to finish out the top five.

Cory Flamm of Warrensburg began the 20-lap Pure Stock main event alongside 2022 Track Champion Spencer Reiff. A quick yellow flag at the start of the race saw the field slow before settling in for some green-flag laps, led by Reiff at the front of the field. Rodger Detherage moved up from fourth to the second position behind Reiff with Jerett Evans third. At the halfway marker, Reiff’s dominance gave himself a five-second lead over the close battle for second. By lap 12, Reiff’s lead built to over seven seconds as Evens moved into second in front of a close battle between Detherage and Cameron Kelly for third. By lap 15, with Reiff pulling away by a full straightaway advantage, Evans, Detherage, and Kelly waged a clean racing but fierce battle for second, going side-by-side for several laps until Evans eventually emerged with the position. Early contender Flamm retired on the lap 18 mark of the race. The last few laps all belonged to Reiff as he cruised to the victory and his second-consecutive track championship. Evans prevailed in the intense battle for second with Detherage third just in front of Kelly in fourth. After a near disastrous spin at the start of the race, Darrin “The Bear” Christy recovered nicely to round out the top five.

Veteran Sparta, Missouri, racer Steve Muilenburg and multiple-time 2022 winner Earl Roark started the 15-lap POWRi Midwest Mods feature from row one with Muilenburg gaining the race lead over Roark and Dave Meyer early in the race after a complete restart. The top three drivers moved away from the rest of the field through lap nine. From here, the race proved challenging as several drivers fell from contention including Roark, Shawne Burns, C.J. Christensen, and Jeremy Mullins in a multi-car caution. Logan Rash fell from contention as he experienced a flat tire, while Burns and Roark were later involved in a second yellow flag incident, which forced their unfortunate retirement from the event. Meanwhile up front, it was all Muilenburg as he never relinquished command of the event, ultimately claiming the victory. Dave Meyer advanced from fourth on the grid to finish in the runner-up position in a solid drive to second while twelfth-starting Dustin Dennison was impressive as he worked his way to third in the final rundown. Walker Burgin also advanced forward in the field from ninth to claim fourth while thirteenth-starting C.J. Christensen came away fifth.

Next Saturday and Sunday’s Timeline: Pit gates opening at 4:30, grandstands at 5, pill draw cutoff for drivers 6:15 (no passing points awarded if late check-in), pit meeting 6:30, hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30 or after hot laps. Admission Details:  Adults $20, Active-Duty Military and Senior Citizens aged 65 to 74 $15, Kids 6 to 12 years old $6, five and under free, seniors 75 and older and individuals permanently confined to a wheelchair are free in the grandstands. All pit passes are $40 regardless of age.
